Bespoke Forged Metalwork for Iconic Mount Pleasant Transformation In London
The transformation of the former Royal Mail sorting office into the vibrant Mount Pleasant (Postmark) development is one of London’s most significant recent residential projects. We’re pleased to have played a part in this prestigious build, led by principal contractor McAleer & Rushe and architect White Ink.
The scheme required a stairwell balustrade solution that not only met modern safety standards, but also reflected the site’s historic industrial character. Brooks Forgings was commissioned to manufacture 1,250 infill spindle bars, each featuring a bespoke pattern that needed to be consistent across a high-volume production run.
To achieve the required design, we used a combination of specialist tooling, heating, forging and pressing techniques. Each bar measures 16 mm in diameter and 1,050 mm in length. The heating process is carefully localised at the centre before the bar is forged and pressed, embedding the design deeply into the steel.
Once manufacturing was complete, the forged bars were supplied to our client for final assembly. Their fabrication team integrated the bars into the finished stairwell balustrade sections, which have now been fully installed on site.
The result is a striking architectural feature that balances safety with style, supporting the high-spec finish of the overall development.
It has been a privilege to contribute to the transformation of this iconic Farringdon site. Our thanks to our client for placing their trust in us for such a precise, high-volume commission.
