Types of IP testing
When one of these hazards is not evaluated, it is represented by an ‘X’ in the IP code, indicating that no rating has been assigned for that specific category. For instance, an IP1X rating demonstrates that the device has a protection level of 1 against solid objects, while no water ingress rating has been specified.
On the other hand, IPX7 signifies that the item has been tested for water resistance to level 7, but its protection against solids has not been assessed.
When both numbers are present, it means the product has been evaluated and certified for protection against both solids and liquids.
