Laminations hide inside the wall. You will not see them, but a weld or a bend will find them for you, usually at the worst moment.

IPB Non Destructive Testing uses straight beam ultrasonic examination (procedure IPB/UT/01) to pick up laminar type defects in pipe.

It is a sensible check before line pipe is bent, welded or sent offshore.

Carried out in-house by ASNT and PCN Level II technicians, with Level III oversight.
