Automated Conformal Coating with Gantry Robots
Conformal coatings protect PCBs from moisture and contamination. Gantry robots apply coating selectively, covering what needs protecting and keeping it off connectors. Dots, lines, arcs, beads and fills are all handled, with single and two part materials, from thin fluids to thick pastes. Automated dispensing systems pair a gantry robot with fluid metering. Dispense pressure, flow rate, bead frequency and bead geometry are all controlled, so every part is treated the same. Common materials include two part epoxies and polyurethanes for bonding and potting, silicones for gasketing and sealing, MMA for fast structural bonds, and filled thermal compounds for heat management. Typical applications include bonding and sealing, filling and dosing, potting and encapsulation, casting and moulding, and form in place gasketing. Get the mix and the dose right and everything downstream gets easier. Fewer failures in test, fewer returns and less time cleaning up. Rockingham Systems provide installation, training, spare parts, on and off site servicing and ongoing technical support.
