Predicting how molten plastic will actually behave inside a mould, before that mould is ever cut, is what mould flow analysis is genuinely for. Andel Plastics carries out mould flow analysis from our Birmingham facility, simulating how material fills a cavity to identify likely defects such as short shots, sink marks or weld lines while a design can still be adjusted cheaply. This kind of simulation matters most on components with variable wall thickness or complex geometry, where flow behaviour is far harder to predict by eye or experience alone. By modelling gate position, cooling and pressure before tooling begins, we can optimise a design to reduce the risk of costly rework once a full production tool has already been manufactured. Our in house toolroom then designs tooling informed directly by that analysis, rather than working from a design that has not been tested against how the material will actually flow.
