Mould Flow Analysis For Plastic Injection Moulding Defects

Mould Flow Analysis For Plastic Injection Moulding Defects

Most injection moulding defects, from sink marks to warping, trace back to decisions made long before the first part ever comes off the press. Andel Plastics uses mould flow analysis to identify these defect risks in advance, simulating how molten plastic will move through a proposed mould design and flagging areas where flow, cooling or pressure are likely to cause problems. Catching a defect risk during simulation, rather than after a real tool has been cut, gives our engineering team the chance to adjust wall thickness, gate placement or cooling channel layout while changes are still relatively cheap to make. This matters particularly on components with complex geometry, where defect causes are rarely obvious just from looking at a drawing. Working alongside our in house toolroom, analysis findings are translated directly into how a tool is actually built, rather than left as recommendations that never make it into production.
For manufacturers who want defects designed out before tooling begins, rather than discovered and reworked afterwards, this is exactly the purpose mould flow analysis serves.
