Injection moulded components often need joining after the mould, and ultrasonic welding is one of the cleanest ways to do it without compromising the part. Andel Plastics carries out ultrasonic welding on components produced by our own injection moulding facility in Birmingham, using high frequency vibration to fuse plastic parts together into a strong, permanent bond. Because welding happens on site immediately after moulding, there is no gap in the process where components sit waiting for an external supplier to catch up, and no risk introduced by shipping unfinished parts elsewhere for assembly. The process suits a wide range of thermoplastics and works well for multi part assemblies where overmoulding or single shot tooling would be impractical or prohibitively expensive. Supported by an in house toolroom, we can also adjust component design to improve weld quality where needed, rather than working around a fixed design that was never intended for ultrasonic joining.
